As you all already know, The Balm Cosmetics always has a catchy packaging for all of its products. I personally love vintage-retro vibe on everything including art, fashion, and of course, the iconic pin-up girls! I draw them sometimes. Their hair, makeup, and outfits are so fun to draw. Maybe some other  time I will show you some of my drawings. Hehehe.. Maybe! Anyway, the Balm also has catchy names for ALL of their products. For examples: Meet Matt(e) Trimony, Nude ‘tude, Balm Jovi, Cindy Lou-Manizer, Mary Lou-Manizer (my favourite hi-lighter), The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes, How ‘Bout Them Apples? (I will review this one too ;), soon!), and… so on so forth.

FIRST IMPRESSION

In early 2015 the balm cosmetic  firstly launched its product Meet Matt Hughes , I actually forgot which  month I bought, I think it was march or april  (?) when I stayed in Semarang for two months. I remember that I bought four shades for myself it was  Committed, Charming, Loyal, and Sentimental. It was sold 240,000 IDR each (Approx. 18.5 USD) for 7.4 ml (0.25 FL OZ) for a product at that time, but I don’t know why it’s sold much cheaper today. On March, Grace from @lipstickofgraceevas (Instagram Shop) offered me to give me full shades of this product and in return, I will swatch and review them. For those who asked, off the record, I never make reviews just because someone gave me some products. Or even, bias reviews. Or even, reviews to ASK you buying stuffs just because I said it’s good. I will soon explain about this some other day .

Yes because I’m a sucker for a good packaging,and this pacakaging impressed me. The product is fully-designed, in and out — I mean the box and tube are well-designed with vintage retro style. And remember how Girlactik nearly costed us a fortune at that time? (380,000 IDR or 30 USD for a single lipstick and we didn’t even complain! Hahaha..) So The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes was, of course, the best find for me at that time. See… I don’t even proceed to talk about the formula just yet.

FORMULA

No matter how this product is highly coveted and five-star rated by so many liquid lipstick aficionados. The light-weight ,non drying ,liquid-to-matte formula is FTW! Not to forget  the vanilla mint scent feels so amazingly fresh on lips. Did I say that this product was the first formula of liquid-to-matte lipstick with minty scent? Because I think, it really was. Please correct me if I’m wrong but I personally never found a lipstick with fresh minty scent before.

The formula of matte is thin and creamy and has medium pigmentation. Well… you need to apply twice or more for some shades if you want to achieve full coverage, don’t worry though because it is totally buildable. Just remember, apply the second layer within a few seconds after the first coat dries itwill give you a more realistic look.

Matte can stay for five or more than that on my lips with normal fading on my inner lips it happens when i eat something .

Balm Cheater Mascara Review – Let me begin by saying I have really straight eyelashes. They also have no curl at all! So, I am always on the lookout for a good mascara that curls, volumises and lengthens. That’s like looking for a perfect guy or something. But guess what, I found both!

My Experience with The Balm Cheater Mascara:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cheeky, retro packaging. It says stuff like, “Looks are deceiving” and “Her secret’s safe now!” so cute! It’s a pretty, nicely sized mascara tube with cute yellow and black prints. It has names for the cheats like Vince Volume, Donnie Dark-Coat, Thomas Thick, and Lance Long-Lash. So, cheeky and fun! The brush is pretty simple, nothing weird or fancy. But, here comes the best part, this simple brush not only lengthens, but also creates great volume. It’s supposed to be a volumizing brush, but I think it also creates beautiful length for my tiny, short lashes. Check the latest price on Amazon.

The Balm Cheater Mascara

It wears well for the whole day. I curl my lashes before applying and it always holds the curl. I leave for college at 7.30 am, and come back around 6 pm, and it’s still holding strong! When I go out in the evening, I put on one or two more coats (no clumps, yay!) and my eyes look instantly refreshed!

TheBalm Cheater Mascara

I have never noticed any flaking or clumping. It has a fairly wet formula, so you just have to take care not to smudge it before it’s dry. It’s pretty lightweight too, so no crunchy lashes.

The Balm nails it at their packaging and this one is no exception. It’s a glossy black tube with fun print as usual. It says ‘ go to the crazy lengths.’ The brush applicator is thin and curved. The bristles are short and evenly placed.

The brush is excellent at separating the lashes and you can really notice a lovely definition in your lashes. Plus I like the thickness of this brush. It prevents your makeup from getting messy. The curved shape and a mix of shorter and long bristles really helps in getting to the very root of the lashes.

The mascara is pretty black but not the blackest black. It’s creamy and coats the lashes beautifully without getting clumpy. It does not take long to dry on the lashes. It is not a waterproof mascara so esp during these summer days I have seen it smudging a bit after a few hours esp around the corners. But I am not a fan of waterproof mascaras personally. I find them painful to remove and it becomes a war for my eyes. I just cannot do waterproof mascaras unless I am really required to. But it can be a an issue for some. It golds up the curl beautifully for all day long.

Now I am someone who likes volume mascaras because I feel they create more drama with my lashes. This one is gives a more polished separated eyelash look. I miss the whole drama and the jazz that I expect from my mascaras. It’s nice but I don’t do just nice mascaras. I received the sample size of this in my November Ipsy bag. For some reason they have been obsessed with sending me eyeliner and mascara every month. Most of the mascaras either look way clumpy, or wind up flaking or smudging. This is the first month I have really loved the mascara.

Admittedly I don’t go to all these lengths of curling my lashes and/or laying mascaras to get the perfect, lengthened and voluminous look. I want to apply a mascara that does what it says and be done with it. I wouldn’t say this is the Holy Grail of mascaras, but it works very well on me! The wand took a little getting used to, being curved. Between the curved wand and its fine tooth comb, just one coat is enough to give it a noticeably longer appearance. I add another coat or two if I am looking for a more dramatic look. My normal night time skin care routine (which starts with an oil face cleanser) takes it all right off.
I don’t think I’ll be spending money trying to find the right mascara for me. My only wish is that it wasn’t only available in black.

I received a sample size of this in my November Ipsy bag. This is the third mascara I’ve received from Ipsy this year but I’m not really complaining because I use mascara daily! The only thing I don’t understand and why I can’t give a perfect score is WHY are the sample mascaras put in such awful packaging? So much of the product comes out on the wand because it’s not a normal twist off tube. Other than that I love the shape of the wand, it truly does add volume to my lashes instead of flaring them straight out. The tiny teeth on the brush separate my lashes and keep them from clumping. Overall I really love this mascara, I think it’s ever better than the Tarte one I received last month.

I received this travel sized in my Nov ipsy bag and it didnt disappoint. Wound up buying the fullsized one on the site. While I usually go for waterproof mascaras I’ve been using this little gem since the day it came. Texture is a bit wet but that’s something I like because then it becomes buildable. It lasts until I take it off with no smudging or transfer to the rest of my eyes (which I tend to experience a lot) and when I do take it off its fairly easy and removes completely without having any left behind residue.

I received this in my ipsy bag the previous month and I must say, I freaking LOVE it! I’m definitely going to get a full size one after my travel one is done with. At first, it was weird because of the wand, but after a while and getting used to it, it was very convenient! It gave a dramatic volume and length all without smearing under my eyes during my 12-hour days! Most mascaras usually smear under my eyes after several hours but these didn’t and I was so surprised. I received a sample size in my ipsy. Ok so the wand is different. I like it, it is a plastic brush, but somehow I always mess.up on the first eye I apply this to. I somehow blink funny and get product everywhere. I can clean up my mistakes fairly easily. By the time I do the next eye, I am ok and get finished without many mistakes. I like how the brush separates the lashes and coats each lash. Bottom line is I really like this. Just gotta get over my application issues!

I received the Balm Cheater Mascara in an iPSY bag and I must say, I really enjoy it. It coats my lashes nicely and with just one coat I can see a difference. The only con that lost a star is the brush. The bristles are weird and have caused me to get mascara in my eye or on my skin. I end up poking myself almost everyday and this causes my eyes to water.
